In Mousesteps Weekly #214, we talk all about the Epcot International Festival of the Arts! The festival spans 6 weekends through February 20th, from Friday - Monday just before the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival begins. This is the debut year!
The 6-foot tall Figment topiary promoted for the Epcot Flower & Garden Festival is displayed early as it opened with the new festival (it will be here for both). Figment plays a large part of the Epcot International Festival of the Arts.
Figment's Brush with the Masters scavenger hunt is one of the highlights! We talk about the unique hunt, which is not so similar to the ones that have been held for Easter and the Epcot Food & Wine Festival. Figment can be found in artwork around World Showcase. And the prize is a magnet, and guests can buy 4 maps to receive one each of the Figment magnets.
Next, we review some of the food booths. There aren't nearly as many booths as the Epcot Food & Wine Festival, which was nice. There are a variety of different food booths, with hit-and-miss items (more hits, a few misses) - favorites include a White Chocolate Figment Puzzle, Choriqueso Tacos in Mexico; Seared Red Snapper in Germany; and Almond Frangipane Cake in Pop Eats!
We take a look at artwork around World Showcase that is set up at character meet and greets. Donald Duck; Snow White; and Alice all receive artistic likenesses.
Photo ops are also quite popular, with guests being able to receive photos within artistic "frames".
We stop and take part in an interactive mural, where guests can paint squares that will eventually work together with thousands of other painted squares in one large painting.
We head to Innoventions (East) to check out info on the Animation Academy, and we shopped at the Annual Passholder store (which is really the same as any other, except with a few couches).
Trevor Carlton was creating his performance art when we left Innoventions, He danced his way through painting Olaf, which was sold as soon as he finished.
There is a "walking chalk art gallery" around World Showcase. We are not quite sure what that meant, but we show some of the art.
One of our favorite locations in Epcot for counter service is the Lotus Blossom Cafe, with Chinese food that includes sweet and sour chicken and beef noodle.
There are two art galleries in the Odyssey Festival Showplace, one for Epcot art from Herb Ryman and the other from Mary Blair. Guests can also purchase original art here and around World Showcase.
Guests can take part in both free and paid classes at the Odyssey Festival Showplace. We take a look at one of the free classes.
There is other entertainment, including music and living statues. But the entertainment highlight is the Disney on Broadway Concert Series! We take a look at this new offering, which features Ashley Brown and Josh Strickland on the first two weekends.
This is a good overview of the Epcot International Festival of the Arts, which is a solid addition to the Epcot festival lineup.
